General - Emergencies

True orthodontic emergencies are fortunately very rare

Occasionally brackets (the small metal or ceramic blocks) become 'debonded' from the teeth. If this occurs, use the wax in the starer kit if it is uncomfortable and contact the surgery on the next working day to arrange a repair

Long wires which poke out of the back of the brace can also be dressed with wax. Contact us during surgery hours to arrange for the wires to be cut shorter. The wire can be moved around carefully if it has 'slewed' to one side

Broken or lost retainers or functional appliances should be reported to the practice as soon as possible to arrange a repair or replacement

Any other problems should be reported early in order to allow the treatment to progress efficently

If you require emergency treatment out of surgery hours, please contact us on the normal number to be given further instructions
