NHS Orthodontics

If you are aged 17 or under and need orthodontic treatment to help improve your dental health, you may be eligible for NHS funding. Problems that can affect your dental health include severe crowding, missing teeth, and teeth that don’t bite together properly.

To find out if you qualify for NHS funding, we offer free assessments to anyone aged 17 or under. Once your General Dentist has sent an NHS referral in for us to register you on our system, you can contact us to arrange your NHS assessment, right up until your 18th birthday. We would also require your NHS medical number in order to book your first appointment.

During your assessment we’ll examine your teeth, and use a set of measurements to give you an IOTN score. IOTN is a scoring system used by every specialist orthodontist in the UK, and it provides us with an objective way of making sure NHS funding helps those who need it most.

Your score tells us whether or not you’re eligible for NHS treatment. If you do qualify for NHS funding, you may need to join a waiting list before we can fit your brace. This is because we receive limited funding from our local NHS team, so we can only treat a certain number of patients each year.

What if I’m not suitable for NHS care?

If you don’t qualify for NHS treatment, we can offer you self-funded private care as an alternative. Private orthodontic treatment is available to everyone and there’s no waiting list to start treatment. Best of all, you can choose from our range of discreet braces, including invisible lingual braces, removable Invisalign aligners and clear fixed braces.

Other benefits of private treatment include fixed and removable retainers, more flexible appointment times, and 12 months of follow-up care. You can also spread the cost of your treatment by opting for one of our interest-free payment plans.
